In a small fishing village, there lived a kind and strong young man named Orio. Every day he would rise early, sail out into the silvery waters, cast his nets, and return home with fresh fish for his mother and the village.
One spring morning, as the golden sun rose gently over the water, Orio heard a strange sound: a soft crying, like that of a child. Following the sound, he came upon a hidden little island among the reeds, and there, beside an ancient fountain, he saw a girl with long silver hair and sky-blue eyes.
Her name was Melusina, and she was a water fairy, daughter of the lagoon and the stars. But she was sad, for a curse forced her to turn into a sea serpent every Saturday. That’s why she lived in hiding, far from people.
But Orio wasn’t afraid. He stepped closer, offered her a freshly caught fish, and smiled. From that day on, Orio and Melusina met every morning, sharing laughter and stories. And without even realizing it, they fell in love.
With her heart full of joy, Melusina decided to tell him her secret: — “Every Saturday, I turn into a creature of the waters, with a shining tail and pearly scales. If you can love me even then, the curse will break forever.”
Orio didn’t hesitate. — “I will love you in every form, Melusina. Whether you have legs or a tail, you will always be the light of my eyes.”
And so it was. They married in a little chapel hidden among the alleys, and Melusina, finally free from the curse, stayed by Orio’s side as both woman and fairy, bringing joy and fortune to the entire lagoon.
In honor of their love, the family born from them took the name Orio and Melusina, which in Venetian became Morosini — and they say that even today, if you look closely at the golden reflections on the water at sunset, you might glimpse Melusina smiling, with Orio by her side, forever happy.
The End.
